Provision of Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication and Load Out of Wellhead Platforms for Balai, Bentara, Spaoh and West Acis Fields

In 2011, Tarpon Platform Systems was awarded an EPC contract to perform detailed design, procurement, fabrication and load out four Wellhead Platforms for our client’s site in Balai, Bentara, Spaoh and West Acis Fields. Also known as the Balai cluster, the fields are located in Bintulu, Sarawak, eastern Malaysia. The Balai Development Project consisted of building guyed caissons, anchor piles and platforms at water depths ranging from 48m to 66m. The caisson, its topside and other miscellaneous structures required for the installation of the Wellhead Platforms were installed using lifting methods as approved by the client.

The total project duration was from October 2011 to June 2012. Due to the fast-paced nature of the delivery and construction of our systems, we were able to fulfil the requirements of the contract under a constrained time frame of under nine months while adhering to our safety and integrity principles and taking budgetary requirements into account. A total of approximately 256,000 man-hours were required for this EPC project. Due to its standardised design, Tarpon platforms have proven to be an economical and affordable alternative to the conventional multi-legged platform for field development, especially for use in marginal fields. Ultimately, the fabrication of a Tarpon platform aims to contribute to the advancement of the offshore oil and gas industry while minimising capital costs.

Together with this installation, we have installed a total of over 60 platforms worldwide and are committed to maintaining the quality of our services. We look forward to future project opportunities and will continue our journey in expanding our offshore presence through enhanced marketing strategies.
